Forklift Classifications
Below are the classes of forklifts which describe the use and fuel choice of each type of forklift. Certification is necessary for each class of forklift which the operator will be using.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either pneumatic tires or cushion tires. Pneumatic tires are recommended in dry conditions for outdoor application. The cushion tired models are designed for indoor surfaces which are smooth. These are electrically powered vehicles that utilize industrial batteries, which make them suitable inside closed locations where the quality of air is a problem. Hoist functions and travel are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units usually utilized everywhere from the loading dock to the storage facility.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This particular forklift is recommended for places where narrow aisles have to be negotiated. They are effective at maximizing the use of storage space. Their unique design makes them perfect where speed is needed and for small spaces.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These battery-powered, hand-controlled models are designed for the operator to stand in front of the truck and control the lift with a steering tiller. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved laterally to steer the vehicle. The units that have smaller capacity utilize industrial batteries.
