Bud Bushnell established Genie Industries during the year 1966, after he purchased the manufacturing rights to a material lift which functioned on compressed air. The name Genie originated from the "magic in the bottle" which was utilized to raise and lower the hoist. This device really impressed customers and hence, the name was established.
Genie has moved into numerous new markets, as the demand for work platforms and lifts grew. Over time, when the requirements for new machinery to meet many applications grew, the company made itself recognized in many new markets. For example, Genie went into making stick booms, telehandlers, man-lifts, articulated booms and light towers.
Genie decided to acquire a partner who held the same values as a result of the economic downturn in the start of the 2000s, when they partnered together with Terex. This company has a history acquiring machine manufacturers all around the globe who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold during 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
During the first years after the sale, it was decided to maintain the Genie brand within the Terex Aerial Work Platforms or AWP segment of Terex, due to the name's solid reputation in the marketplace. Thus, all Genie machines continue to be sold under the Genie brand name.
The company takes great pride in taking advice from and listening to their clients. Genie has always been continually dedicated to improving the efficiency and quality in addition to minimizing wastes. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company concentrates on offering exceptional support. These are the very work practices that have made Genie a trusted brand over the past decades and continue to keep their reputation for quality and top-of-the-line machines.
The Bi-Energy and DC machinery offered by Genie provide emission-free, quiet operation even in the most delicate work settings. Where the machine needs to be driven significant distances, like in industrial situations, the Genie bi-energy system combines the power of a diesel-powered generator together with the advantages of a 48V DC machinery.
Telescopic booms offer greater horizontal reach, compared to any of the different aerial platforms. These machines are ideal for small areas or limited access areas in all kinds of environments.
