History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was first established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment. In the year 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years. Now, SMAG is the world's market leader, utilizing grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and global cargo handling applications.
